Birthday in Japan version 2.0

My second birthday in Japan was rather uneventful.

Because we both had to work on Tuesday (my birthday) and Wednesday, I made the decision that there would be three days of celebration, and dubbed it "birthdaypalooza". Plus, for half of Wednesday in Japan it is still Tuesday at home, so it's justified, I think.

Andrew had to go to a kindergarten early Tuesday morning, so I got to sleep in. I then took myself out to lunch at an okonomiyaki joint and headed off to work. A few of my students presented me with a cake and a nice flower arrangement, and one of my kid students gave me a little gift as well, which really surprised me.

Since we both had to work until Wednesday, we decided to do something to celebrate on Thursday. We went out to the IMAX theatre to catch Deep Sea 3D (not my kind of movie at all, is it?), which was dubbed into Japanese, so we had to use headsets to hear the English version. We looked ridiculous in our headsets and 3D glasses, but it was quite a good time nonetheless. The theatre was probably the least crowded public space I'd been in for a long time. After the flick, we wandered around by the aquarium and the mall and headed back in the direction of home. We had to stop so I could pick up some sort of storage system for the drawings I've been cranking out lately (see the next post).

All in all, it was a good 3-day birthdaypalooza!

Justin and David Bike Canada for Kidney

A couple of Harvey High graduates are planning a trek across Canada by mountain bike to raise money for the Kidney Foundation of Canada, and raise awareness about kidney disease. Please click here to learn more about their mission.

I think that this is just an amazing task to attempt, and I wish them all the best! Good luck!
